How to download Cake Wallet safely
Download Cake Wallet only from the App Store (ID 1334702542) for iPhone, iPad and Mac, Google Play (com.cakewallet.cake_wallet), Accrescent or Cake's own F-Droid repository for Android, or the official GitHub releases for APKs, macOS and Linux. Reach them by typing cakewallet.com yourself, and check any downloaded file's SHA-256 hash before installing. New Windows builds are paused as of October 2026.
Quick steps
- Open the official site. Type cakewallet.com into your browser yourself or use a trusted bookmark. Do not use ads or links from messages.
- Pick your platform's source. Use the App Store (ID 1334702542) on iPhone, iPad or Mac, Google Play, Accrescent or Cake's F-Droid repository on Android, or GitHub releases for APK, macOS and Linux files.
- Check the listing. In a store, confirm the developer name and app ID or package name com.cakewallet.cake_wallet. On GitHub, confirm the page belongs to cake-tech/cake_wallet and the file name starts with Cake_Wallet.
- Verify the file hash. For GitHub downloads, run sha256sum, shasum -a 256 or certutil and compare the result with the SHA-256 hash in the release notes or the signed SHA256SUMS file.
- Install and back up. Install only if the hash matches. Create or restore a wallet and write the seed on paper; for 25-word Monero seeds, also note the restore height.
Fake wallet apps and clone websites are one of the easiest ways to lose crypto, and they often rank above the real site. This page lists every official source for Cake Wallet as of October 2026 and shows how to check what you downloaded. Platform-specific steps are in the Android, iPhone and iPad and desktop guides.
Official sources
| Platform | Source | What to check | Updates |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone, iPad, Mac | Apple App Store | ID id1334702542, developer Cake Technologies, LLC | Automatic |
| Android | Google Play | Package com.cakewallet.cake_wallet | Automatic |
| Android | Accrescent | Package com.cakewallet.cake_wallet | Automatic |
| Android | Cake's F-Droid repository | fdroid.cakelabs.com (not the main F-Droid catalogue) | Through F-Droid |
| Android | GitHub releases (APK), optionally via Obtainium | github.com/cake-tech/cake_wallet, SHA-256 hash | Manual, or via Obtainium |
| macOS | GitHub releases (.dmg) | File named Cake_Wallet_v…dmg, SHA-256 hash | Manual |

| Windows | None current | New builds paused; only pre-6.0 versions on GitHub | None |
Requirements: Android 8.0 or later; iOS or iPadOS 15.0 or later; macOS 12 or later (Cake Wallet docs, 2026). Store listings and GitHub can be a few days apart in version: in October 2026 the stores had 6.5.0 while GitHub still marked 6.4.4 as latest when we checked.
The same GitHub releases page also carries files for Monero.com, Cake's Monero-only app. Make sure the file name starts with Cake_Wallet if that is the app you want. See Monero.com vs Cake Wallet.
Which source should you use?
- Most people: the App Store or Google Play. Stores check signatures for you and update automatically.
- Android without Google: Accrescent (Cake's docs recommend it for reliable updates) or Cake's F-Droid repository. Both are good on GrapheneOS or CalyxOS.
- Android, direct from the developer: the GitHub APK, ideally managed by Obtainium so you get update notices.
- Desktop: the Mac App Store on a Mac; GitHub for Linux. Cake recommends mobile while the desktop app is being redesigned.
Reach the sources safely
Type cakewallet.com into your browser yourself, or use a bookmark you made earlier, and follow the download links from there. Do not use ads, search results, links in messages or "download" buttons on other sites. In the app stores, search for Cake Wallet and check the developer name and app ID before tapping Install.
Red flags: a browser extension (Cake Wallet does not offer one), a new Windows installer, APKs on mirror sites or in chat groups, and any page that asks for your seed. Paste a link into our download checker if you are unsure. More patterns are in fake apps and scams.
Verify a downloaded file
For files from GitHub, compare the file's SHA-256 hash with the one Cake publishes. Older releases list hashes in the release notes under a heading reading === SHA-256 ===. Newer releases may also include a SHA256SUMS file and a signature, SHA256SUMS.asc, made with a release key Cake created in September 2026 (Cake Wallet VERIFY.md, 2026).
| System | Command (run in the download folder) |
|---|---|
| Linux, Tails | sha256sum FILENAME |
| macOS | shasum -a 256 FILENAME |
| Windows (to check an APK before copying it to a phone) | certutil -hashfile FILENAME SHA256 |
The output must match the published hash character for character. If it does not, delete the file and download it again from the official page. Never install a file whose hash does not match.
A hash only proves the file is the one listed on the page you read. The signed checksum file goes further: it proves Cake published it. If a release includes SHA256SUMS.asc, import Cake's release key, check that its fingerprint is 22F5 6E80 9E09 4449 89AF A8E0 23FE 0560 9FFB 3E7C, run gpg --verify SHA256SUMS.asc SHA256SUMS and look for "Good signature". A warning that the key is "not certified with a trusted signature" is normal; a "BAD signature" is not.
Extra checks by platform
- Android APK: Cake's verification guide gives the signing certificate SHA-256 digest as
c54053ab0f10d9541762a3da7665ae3dba5e7c743ab4f108a5349d62ac106ef5, the same for GitHub, Accrescent and F-Droid. Check it with apksigner or the on-device app AppVerifier. - macOS .dmg: the disk image is notarised by Apple and signed by Cake Technologies, LLC with team ID
32J6BB6VUS. - App Store and Google Play: the store checks signatures on install; just make sure it is the right listing.
What about Windows?
New Windows builds are on hold while Cake redesigns its desktop app; a refreshed app is expected in late 2026 (Cake Wallet docs, 2026). The old Windows versions still on GitHub predate version 6.0 and lack newer features and security fixes. Use the phone app for now. Details in Cake Wallet on desktop.
After installing
Create or restore a wallet, then back up the seed on paper. For 25-word Monero seeds, also note the restore height. Cake Wallet says its support never asks for your seed and never messages you first. Next steps: set up Cake Wallet and back up your seed.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the official Cake Wallet download?
From cakewallet.com, typed in yourself: the App Store, Google Play, Accrescent, Cake's F-Droid repository at fdroid.cakelabs.com, or the GitHub releases of cake-tech/cake_wallet.
Is Cake Wallet on the main F-Droid catalogue?
No. You add Cake's own repository, fdroid.cakelabs.com, to the F-Droid app.
Is there a Cake Wallet for Windows?
Not a current one. New Windows builds are paused during a desktop redesign; only old pre-6.0 builds remain on GitHub. Cake recommends the mobile apps for now.
Is it safe to download Cake Wallet from APK sites?
No. Use only Cake's GitHub releases, Accrescent or its F-Droid repository, and check the SHA-256 hash.
What if the SHA-256 hash does not match?
Do not install the file. Delete it and download it again from the official GitHub releases page. If it still fails, report it to Cake through the security contacts on cakewallet.com.
