Basics

What is Cake Wallet?

A free, open-source, non-custodial wallet for iPhone, iPad, Android, macOS and Linux. It started in 2018 as a Monero wallet and now also supports Bitcoin (including Lightning), Litecoin, Ethereum and other networks. See what Cake Wallet is.

Is Cake Wallet the same as the CAKE token?

No. Cake Wallet has nothing to do with PancakeSwap's CAKE token, with Cake DeFi (now Bake) or with CAKE.com. Searching for "CAKE wallet" often shows pages about the token; they are unrelated to this app.

Who makes Cake Wallet?

Cake Labs, which also makes Monero.com by Cake Wallet, the Cupcake signer app and Cake Pay. Apple lists the publisher as Cake Technologies, LLC. Frosting Guide is independent and not part of Cake. See Monero.com app vs Cake Wallet.

Safety and download

Is Cake Wallet safe?

It is open source, self-custody and has operated since 2018. Its most serious incident was weak Bitcoin seeds created by versions from 2020 and 2021, which users were told to replace. Fake apps, fake websites and phishing for seed phrases are a common risk for users of any wallet. Read is Cake Wallet safe and the security history.

Where do I download the real app?

App Store (id1334702542), Google Play (com.cakewallet.cake_wallet), Accrescent, Cake's own F-Droid repository or the GitHub releases, starting from cakewallet.com typed in yourself. Check links with our download checker and see download Cake Wallet.

Is there a Windows version?

New Windows releases are on hold while Cake redesigns the desktop app; only older pre-6.0 builds exist. macOS and Linux builds are current. See Cake Wallet on desktop.

Will Cake Wallet support ever message me?

Cake Wallet says it never messages users first and never asks for your seed. Anyone who does is a scammer. See fake apps and scams.

Seeds and recovery

What happens if I lose my phone?

Install Cake Wallet on a new device and restore from your seed phrase. Without the seed, nobody, including Cake, can recover your funds. See back up your seed and restore a wallet.

Why does my Monero seed have 16 words, not 25?

New Monero wallets use Polyseed (16 words), which stores the creation date. Older wallets and most other Monero apps use 25 words. Cake Wallet restores both. Our seed type checker explains the formats.

What is a restore height?

The block where Cake Wallet starts scanning when you restore a Monero wallet. Write it down with a 25-word seed. Too high hides old transactions; too low only slows the sync. See restore height and the restore height calculator.

I forgot my PIN. What can I do?

The PIN cannot be recovered. Delete the app's wallet and restore it from the seed or an encrypted backup file. Do not delete anything until you have the seed.

Fees, swaps and buying

Does Cake Wallet charge fees?

No fee to send or receive; you pay network fees. Swap and buy quotes include the provider's margin, and swap quotes can include an undisclosed affiliate markup for Cake. See Cake Wallet fees.

Do I need KYC to use Cake Wallet?

No account or ID is needed for the wallet. Buy and sell providers set their own checks. See buy and sell crypto.

How do swaps work?

The app gets quotes from providers such as ChangeNOW, Trocador and Chainflip and sends your coins to the one you choose. Floating rates can move; fixed rates lock the amount at a slightly worse rate. See swapping in Cake Wallet.

My swap is stuck. What should I do?

Check the status in History, make sure the receiving wallet is synced, then contact Cake Wallet support with the Swap ID. See swap stuck.

What is Cake Pay?

A gift card and prepaid card shop for over 150,000 merchants, paid with Bitcoin, Lightning, Litecoin, Monero or Zcash, with email-only sign-up. See Cake Pay.

Privacy features

Can I use Cake Wallet over Tor?

Yes. Built-in Tor (experimental) is under Settings, Connections, and swaps and fiat services can be set to Tor only. Orbot also works. See privacy and Tor.

What are Silent Payments and Payjoin?

Silent Payments give you one reusable Bitcoin address (starting sp1) that does not link payments on-chain. Payjoin mixes inputs from sender and receiver in one transaction. See Silent Payments and Payjoin.

What is Litecoin MWEB?

MimbleWimble Extension Blocks: private Litecoin balances and transfers, with addresses starting ltcmweb1, on iOS and Android. See Litecoin MWEB.

Can I move my Monero from Exodus or MyMonero?

Yes. Exodus dropped Monero in August 2025 and MyMonero shut down in January 2026. See Exodus to Cake Wallet and MyMonero to Cake Wallet.

My wallet is not syncing or shows zero. What now?

Switch to another node, keep the app open on a stable connection and check the restore height. See not syncing and balance zero or missing.
