Which seed type do I have?

Choose how many words your seed has. The tool explains which seed type that usually is (BIP39, Electrum, Polyseed or the legacy Monero seed) and what to watch for when restoring it in Cake Wallet. Never type your actual seed words into this or any website.

Seed types at a glance

WordsUsuallyUsed for
12 / 24BIP39 (sometimes Electrum)Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum and most coins
16PolyseedMonero (Cake Wallet default, Feather)
25Legacy Monero seedMonero (official wallets, Monerujo, older Cake Wallet)
13Short MyMonero-style Monero seedSome MyMonero wallets; Cake Wallet's restore screen does not accept 13 words (Cake's MyMonero guide asks for the 25-word seed)

The word count is a strong hint, not proof. Restore guides: restore a wallet in Cake Wallet and back up your seed safely.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't the tool ask for my words?

Because no website should ever see your seed. The word count is enough to identify the type.

Can I restore a Monero seed in a Bitcoin wallet?

No. A Monero seed restores a Monero wallet; restore it as a Monero wallet in Cake Wallet.

I have an old 12-word Bitcoin seed from Cake Wallet. Is it safe?

If it was created in Cake Wallet in 2020 or 2021 as an Electrum-style seed, it may be one of the weak seeds Cake Wallet warned about. Move the funds to a newly created wallet.
