Cake Wallet alternatives in 2026

For Monero, the main alternatives to Cake Wallet are Feather (desktop), Monerujo (Android), Stack Wallet (multi-coin, includes Windows), the official Monero GUI and CLI, and Edge (multi-coin mobile). For savings, pair Feather or the GUI with a Ledger or Trezor. For Bitcoin only, Sparrow is a strong desktop choice.

Cake Wallet is a popular open-source wallet for Monero and Bitcoin privacy, but it is not the only option, and two former choices have gone: Exodus ended Monero support on 18 August 2025 and MyMonero shut down on 6 January 2026. This page lists the alternatives that still work as of October 2026, with honest trade-offs. Frosting Guide is independent and has no affiliate relationship with any of them.

Feather

Feather is a free, open-source Monero desktop wallet for Windows, macOS, Linux and Tails. It bundles Tor and by default routes all traffic except wallet sync through it, supports Polyseed, view-only wallets and freezing outputs, and works with Ledger and Trezor. The latest release is 2.8.1 (14 April 2025). There is no phone app. Full comparison: Cake Wallet vs Feather.

Monerujo

Monerujo is an open-source, Monero-only Android wallet with Ledger support, Tor through Orbot, a built-in exchange through Exolix and "Sidekick" offline signing on a second phone. Its latest release is v4.1.7 from 17 June 2025, with no release since, so check that it still suits you before relying on it. Full comparison: Cake Wallet vs Monerujo.

Stack Wallet

Stack Wallet by Cypher Stack is the closest like-for-like alternative: open source (GPL-3.0), multi-coin with Monero, built-in Tor with a kill switch, swaps and Monero churning. It runs on Windows, where Cake Wallet's releases are paused. We found no hardware-wallet support in its code. Full comparison: Cake Wallet vs Stack Wallet.

Official Monero GUI and CLI

The Monero Project's own wallets (version 0.18.5.0 on getmonero.org in October 2026) are the reference software. The GUI runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and can run a full node for you, so you do not depend on anyone else's server. The CLI also runs on Android and FreeBSD. Both work with Ledger (Nano S, Nano S Plus, Nano X) and Trezor (Model T, Safe 3, Safe 5). They are less convenient on a phone and need disk space for the blockchain if you run a node.

Edge

Edge is a multi-coin mobile wallet for iOS and Android that still lists Monero in October 2026, alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, Zcash and many others, with swaps through partner exchanges. The Monero Project's download page lists Edge under "remote synchronization", which means a server scans for your transactions; Edge 4.49.1 (July 2026) added server settings that let you choose a light-wallet server or your own monerod full node, so check which one your wallet uses. Edge publishes its source on GitHub.

Ledger or Trezor with a software wallet

For larger Monero balances, a hardware wallet keeps the spend key off your phone and computer. Neither Ledger Live nor Trezor Suite manages Monero directly; Trezor says native Monero support in Trezor Suite is not available. You pair the device with a Monero wallet instead: the Monero GUI or CLI, Feather, Monerujo (Ledger) or Cake Wallet, which supports Ledger for Monero since December 2024 and Trezor since June 2026. See Ledger and Trezor in Cake Wallet. Cake's free Cupcake app is another option that turns a spare phone into an offline signer (Cupcake).

Sparrow (Bitcoin only)

If you only need Bitcoin, Sparrow is a desktop wallet with outstanding coin control, broad hardware-wallet and multisig support, built-in Tor and, since v2.5.0 (May 2026), receiving Silent Payments. It has no phone app and no other coins. Details: Cake Wallet vs Sparrow and Electrum.

Others worth knowing

  • Monero.com by Cake Wallet. Cake's own Monero-only app, built from the same code. See Monero.com vs Cake Wallet.
  • Skylight Wallet. An open-source Android light wallet released by MAGIC Grants in November 2025. It uses a light-wallet server that you run yourself or trust, with no default server.
  • Trust Wallet and Exodus. Popular, but neither holds Monero today (vs Trust Wallet, vs Exodus).

Wallets that no longer support Monero

Exodus ended Monero support on 18 August 2025 and points users to compatible wallets such as Cake Wallet; see moving Exodus Monero to Cake Wallet. MyMonero went offline on 6 January 2026 and deleted its server data on 6 February 2026, handing stewardship of its users to Cake Wallet; see moving from MyMonero. In both cases the coins are safe on the Monero blockchain, and the seed restores in any compatible wallet listed above.

How to choose

  1. Where will you use it? Phone: Cake Wallet, Monerujo (Android), Stack Wallet or Edge. Computer: Feather, the Monero GUI or Stack Wallet.
  2. How much will it hold? For savings, add a Ledger or Trezor, or use an offline signer.
  3. Is it maintained? Check the date of the latest release. A wallet without updates may fall behind network upgrades.
  4. Can you leave? Prefer wallets with standard seeds (25-word Monero, Polyseed or BIP39) so you can restore elsewhere. Keep your seed and restore height on paper (backup guide).
  5. Download safely. Install only from official stores or the project's own site, typed in yourself. Fake wallet apps are common (how to spot them).

Rules on privacy coins and which exchanges list them differ by country. Check what applies where you live; this page is not legal advice.
